February 26th 2017 / TOO MUCH DEATH

As I get older I find death becomes more visible with every passing day. The Grim Ripper seems to be working over time and likes it! Friends and family are getting older and passing over the Veil. I see in the news everyday death taking lives on the streets in gang shootings, terrorist attacks all over the world, domestic violence went fatally wrong, natural disasters, disease, accidents, fires, people breathing one moment and then the next moment nothing.

Death is ugly and messy and I have grown very weary of it. But I must realize we live in a fallen world and instead of focusing on the thorn on the rose I should focus on the rose petal. We need to be grateful for Jesus redeeming us from the fall so that there is no sting of death in the final ending of the story of humanity. Some choose not to believe, not to have faith, but I believe and have faith and trust that Jesus Christ's atoning blood cleanses us from all sin if we choose to believe He is the Messiah resurrected from the grave.

Then Jesus began to tell them that the Son of Man must suffer many terrible things and be rejected by the elders, the leading priests, and the teachers of religious law. He would be killed, but three days later he would rise from the dead.

Prayer: Father in Heaven, gives us the strength to face death with courage and honorable face the reality of life, how fragile it is and how short, in Jesus Christ's name, amen.

CATHOLIC TENDENCIES

Ever since I was introduced to the Catholic Church I have been fascinated by this body of the Christian faith. One thing that has stuck with me that I admire is the unashamed strength to stand up for what they believe and back it up with The Three Pillars of the Church. I have recently been thinking about what it is like to live in a time when you have to rethink or fact-check everything. It is tiring and outright exhausting not being able to trust things at face value. THE BIG PRINT GIVES IT and the little print takes it away! TRAVELING WITH ROMA TO ROME

Throughout my years with Roma, I have dragged her through so many different church doors to either preach or play music for, or simply to explore. She has been a really good sport about it all. But last month she came to me and told me from the heart that before she dies she wants to be Catholic. Channeling my inner Baptist long-windedness I will share with you a very tender and private story of faith. Roma grew up going to St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church. She went to school there and worshipped there too. When she came of age she wanted to be Catholic and her mother would not allow it. She was heartbroken.
