Lent is a season in the church calendar year that is a time of reflection. We reflect on where our relationship with Jesus is and how to strengthen the relationship to walk closer to Jesus. Some people give up something for Lent to relate to how Jesus gave up food in the wilderness. Some people add something to help them get closer to Jesus. But it does not matter whether you add or subtract something for Lent so long as it helps you grow a more healthy relationship with Jesus with a contrite heart.
Genesis 3:19New Living Translation (NLT)
19 By the sweat of your brow
will you have food to eat
until you return to the ground
from which you were made.
For you were made from dust,
and to dust you will return.”
Prayer:
Almighty and everlasting God, you hate nothing you have
made and forgive the sins of all who are penitent: Create and
make in us new and contrite hearts, that we, worthily
lamenting our sins and acknowledging our wretchedness,
may obtain of you, the God of all mercy, perfect remission
and forgiveness; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives
and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever
and ever. Amen.
